What was Jenny doing while Linda was sleeping？ 过去进行时常与“ when, while ”引导的时间状语连用，它们的用法如下： （1）when在英文中指：at or during the time that, 它既指时间点，也可指一段时间，while是during the time that 只表示一段时间，因此在引导时间状语从句时，when引导的时间状语从句中的动词可以是瞬间性动词，也可以是延续性动词，而while从句中的动词必须是延续性动词。 瞬间动词有哪些？ （come，arrive，fall, go ,leave, open, close ….) eg：It was snowing when we arrived at the station. While she was typing, someone knocked at the door. （2）由when引导的时间状语从句常用一般过去时，而主句用过去进行时；但是在并不强调哪一个动作持续时间更长或者哪一个动作是打断性的行为的情况下，when引导的状语从句也可以使用过去进行时。如果强调从句和主句的动作同时发生，两句都用过去进行时，则多用while引导从句。 eg： He finally fell asleep when/while the wind was dying down.
