And something I never expected happened: friends both near and far asked me how they could help. I wrote back, thanking them all but not accepting their kind offers. But when we got back home, a friend helped to take care of our meals for the first month of my recovery (恢复). Parents in our school picked my kids up from school each afternoon. Friends sent books and food. My children also changed a lot. They no more asked me to send them to school, to prepare their lunch boxes or to make sure their homework was in their bags. They learned to do it by themselves. Each day after school, they ran back home quickly to see if I was fine. My daughter tried many ways like playing light music or funny movies to help me go through the hard time. When I was taking my slow, painful PT exercises (术后康复训练), my son got a for k or a bottle of water for me whenever he was asked, never complaining. They all seemed to be better for my accident. Though we often teach children not to talk to strangers, adults are expected to say at least a few words in certain situations. Small talk can start new friendship. When we begin conversations with new people, we use small talk to find common interests. Small talk even helps people get a job. So, how can you make small talk lead to a new friendship or job First of all, choose something around you that you share with the other person.
