2025年时文阅读94 Passage 1 China cuts and adds new majors to meet the country’s needs 高校学科专业调整,聚焦国家战略需求 词数 350建议阅读时间 7分钟 “My major is gone!” Some students may have noticed a change in majors at many Chinese universities. Recently, China has introduced a three-year action plan to improve the way university majors are developed. The plan, covering the period from 2025 to 2027, aims to (旨在) better support the country’s high-quality development and strategic needs. It calls for the rapid creation of majors in new and future industries while adjusting (调整) majors that are considered poor quality or have low student demand. This is not the first government effort to adjust university majors. A 2023 guideline (指导方针) set the goal of upgrading 20 percent of them by 2025 to match new technologies, industries and models. By Aug 28, the goals of the guideline had been achieved. In the past two years, universities across China have added 3,715 new bachelor’s programs while canceling or suspending (暂停) 6,638 programs, according to Xinhua. Importantly, a “green channel” has been set up to speed up the approval (批准) of majors related to the nation’s latest strategic targets (目标) without going through the normal application steps. In September 2024, for example, six universities, including Beihang University, were guided by the Ministry of Education outside the normal application period to establish a low-altitude technology and engineering major. This was done to meet the rapid development needs of the low-altitude economy (低空经济). Interdisciplinary (跨学科的) work is another important feature of the changes. The Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications has teamed up with other universities, such as the Beijing Film Academy. Together, they have started five joint (联合的) bachelor’s degree programs, including “digital media technology + digital media art” and “AI + financial technology”. As China’s industries have been rapidly developing, there is a growing need for the cultivation (培养) of talent. Despite having a large pool of skilled people, we are short of high-level and interdisciplinary professionals. By adjusting majors, we can better integrate (结合) education, technology and talent development, a government official told Xinhua. Also, universities have different strengths, so when adjusting majors, they shouldn’t just follow the new trend (趋势) blindly. Instead, they should focus on what they do best and make changes that suit their own needs, noted The Paper. 词汇积累 major n. 主修科目,专业 用法:major还可用作动词,意为“主修,专攻”,major in ... 主修……;major也常用作形容词,表示“重要的,主要的” Her major was French.
