Read the brief introduction to Tuesday with Morrie and predict the topic of the book. Tuesdays with Morrie is an autobiographical nonfiction written by the American writer Mitch. It’s the story of the last philosophy lesson the author’s mentor, Professor Morrie Schwatz, taught Mitch every Tuesday for 14 weeks before he died. Morrie, a professor of socialpsychology in his 70s, was dying of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)(肌萎缩侧索硬化症) in 1994. As one of Morrie’s early students, Mitch visited the professor every Tuesday to listen to the old man’s final instructions and, after his death, Mitch wrote a book called Tuesdays with Morrie. Death, both as the theme of the work and as the clue of the novel, conveys the author’s deeper and more thorough thinking about life, which makes Tuesdays with Morrie itself exude a strong philosophical implication. It’s about the meaning of life. Mitch Albom (1959--) is a well-known American columnist, radio host, television commentator and active philanthropist (慈善家). He has published nine bestsellers so far, including Tuesdays with Morrie , a nonfiction book that has been on the bestseller lists for four years and has been translated into thirty-one languages, including Chinese.
