Module 4 Family Analysis This module is about talking about persons. Pupils had learnt some words of family members when they were in Grade 2. They are quite familiar with these words and it is interesting for them to talk about their families. While they are talking about people, they need some new adjectives for their descriptions. There are seven new adjectives in this module, and two questions: who’s this/that… He’s/ She’s …. Is he/she… Yes, he/she is./ No, he/she isn’t.” Aims: Pupils will be able to: ask about the identity of someone using Who’s that… ; ask Yes/No questions about someone’s identity using Is he/she… ; refer to people using relationship vocabulary. refer to relationships using the apostrophe’s; describe a person using adjectives such as cute and pretty; Learning contents new words and phrases; grammar: Asking about an object with What’s this Referring to a person with demonstratives this and that, e.g. *This man *That man is your father! Using the possessi ve pronouns my and your to refer to state relationships, e.g., my grandpas, your father. Using the personal pronouns he and she to refer to a third person, e.g., * He’s my father./ She’s my mother. Asking abo ut someone’s identity with Who’s … , e.g., Who’s that man Talking about re lationships with apostrophe’s, e.g., my father’s father. Asking Yes/ No questions about a person’s identity, e.g., Is she your sister Referring to oneself with It’s me. Phonetics Go over the sou nds of letter a/e/i/o/u, and can read out correctly new words according to the sounds of letters. Teaching materials Tape recorder, pictures, CD-room, exercise-papers Period One Content: U7 new words Objective Pupils will learn to r ead the new words and remember their spellings according to phonetics, e.g. letter sounds and syllables Pupils will b e able to use the personal pronouns he and she to refer to a third person. Main points and difficulties new words’ spelling Steps warm up sing a song: father figure read a rhyme: I love my family introduce the new words. show the pic tures and ps. tell who they are: grandpa, grandma, dad/father, mum/mother, baby, brother, sister. Let ps. tell each s yllable of the words, e.g. mother=mo+ther, father=fa+ther Introduce “family/ a picture of my family” by the picture wall. Help ps. to read fl uently the phrase “ a picture of my family” by patting the rhythm. Lead ps. to class ify the persons as different sexes. e.g., father, grandpa, (man); mother, grandma (lady); brother(boy); sister (girl). Lead ps. to classify these persons as different personal pronouns. E.g., he/she. Quick reaction: to check ps. understanding and reaction of he/she. T: mother. Ps: she. T: father. Ps: he. invite 2 boys to s tand in front of the blackboard, teacher calls their names, require ps. to say like this:“A boy. Xxx is a boy. He is a boy.” Teacher says: “ This is a boy.
