The Zhang family wanted to build a house, while the neighbors also wanted to build a house. The Zhang family wrote to Zhang Ying to seek help. Zhang responded saying, “What if you yield (让步) three feet for them ” The Zhang family did so. The Wu family was touched and also yielded three feet. The two walls thus formed a six-foot lane. “Six Feet Lane” tale tells us when faced with conflicts, sometimes we need to step three feet back to consider things from other people’s perspective and make a compromise.
